Levels can get pretty bland and repetitive at times, sidequest or not. There aren’t enough enemy types to support a game this long and the level designers were clearly struggling to make this many areas. I actually love the addition of sidequests but there’s just too many levels here. This game is significantly longer than 1 & 2 and is loaded with sidequests, each of which offer a ~20 minute standalone level. Next up, Dead Space 3 seems to be more concerned with quantity over quality. This stuff isn't well-implemented, they were clearly chasing industry trends, it clearly detracts from the horror, and it’s a mystery that they learned nothing from RE5 and RE6, which made the exact same mistakes. The addition of human enemies, standard zombies, and cover-shooting similarly land with a thud. The intro city level and love triangle feel like EA cranked the stupid-dial up to 11. At the surface level, the focus on co-op and Michael Bay storytelling were obviously the wrong direction to go in. Unfortunately, many of its elements just don’t land or don’t work when combined with other elements. It has some insanely cool levels, the combat is fun as always, and it offers a satisfying ending to Isaac’s quest.

15h Played Dead Space 3 is a good game that made some well-intentioned decisions that unfortunately derail the entire game.
